Gabriel Silva leaves Fedecafe to become Defence Minister

Dr Gabriel Silva Lujan, who became General Manager of the National Federation of Coffee Growers in 2002, in late July resigned after being appointed his country’s Defence Minister, reports said.

Silva (pictured), who has had a distinguished career in government and as a diplomat (including a stint as Colombia’s Ambassador to the US), is to take up his new responsibilities during August, a statement from Colombian President Alvaro Uribe’s office said.
