Colombia Coffee to Get Rain Boost, Central America Dry, MDA Says

(Bloomberg) — Showers throughout rest of wk will maintain
“favorable” conditions in Colombia’s southern areas, while
slowly improving flowering outlook for northern regions, MDA
Weather Services says Wednesday in e-mailed report.

* Dryness will spread further through wkend across Central
America, stressing early flowering

* In past mo., central and southern Costa Rica, western Panama
got 30-40% of avg moisture; parts of Guatemala and Honduras
got 15%-30% of avg, meteorologist Donald Keeney says by
telephone from Gaithersburg, Md.

* While too soon to say whether potential for next yr’s crop
is compromised ahead of rainy season starting in May,
another month like that “will become a big proble m” for
yields

* Dryness increasing in Brazil’s Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo and
Parana with situation expected to “worsen” next 10 days
