A Costa Coffee franchise owner has installed an electronic point of sale
(Epos) system to improve customer service and management efficiencies.

Simon Vardy owns nine Costa Coffee franchise stores across Greater Manchester
and Cheshire and selected an Epos system with Toshiba Hardware and Datasym.POS
software, implemented by WRS systems. “I was impressed by the flexibility of the
system,” said Vardy.

The system enables remote access to live data from all nine cafes and
features fingerprint sign-on for staff. The back-office software from Datasym,
called Stockade, optimises stock management.

The Epos, called STA20, replaces the older ST71S system with a lower-power,
more efficient system. “We could pay for the cost of the new equipment in two
years with just the power savings,” said Paul Peringa, account manager of
Toshiba TEC Europe.

The STA20 also greatly reduces transaction times and input errors; according
to Peringa, the maximum sales transaction went from £300 in 40 transactions with
the ST71S, to £450 in 60 transactions.”Toshiba has worked on back-office
solutions with Datasym for more than 30 years,” he said. “We have had a very
long, successful relationship.”
