TAIPEI – Coffee Festival awaits you to enjoy the rich culture

TAIPEI – The Taipei Municipal Government called together representatives of coffee shops which have been operating for more than twenty years to the Coffee Movie Park in Hsimending on July 21. The meeting was held to point up Taipei’s rich coffee culture and to officially announce the 2009 Taipei Coffee Festival.

Liu Jia-jun, Director of the Taipei City Commercial Office, said that Taipei is the first city in Taiwan to hold a coffee festival because it boasts the highest density of coffee shops, the broadest range of coffee drinkers and the most profound coffee culture on the island. In addition, Taipei has many coffee shops that have been serving up hot brew for more than twenty years, and they are what gives Taipei the right to claim leadership in Taiwan’s coffee culture.

The 2009 Taipei Coffee Festival will offer a variety of related activities during the coming weeks, culminating in a main event on October 31 in Citizens Plaza across from Taipei City Hall. This event will spotlight Taipei’s best coffee shops for 2008 and 2009 in a special presentation called “Coffee’s better-half – desserts that jive with java.” Visitors will be able to sample many different varieties of coffee from around the world as well as incredible desserts, all in one place, during this climax to the festival.
