NEW ZEALAND – Food Safety Authority investigates caffeine drinks

MILAN – Following complaints, the New Zealand Food Safety Authority is conducting an “urgent” investigation to examine the legality of “energy shot” drinks with twice the caffeine of an average cup of coffee.

The authority would not say which brands were being investigated.

Energy drinks are normally classified as “formulated caffeinated beverages” and may only contain a maximum of 320mg of caffeine a litre.
