June 10 2009 – The Department of Food Safety in Japan announced the occurrence of the second case of pyrasclostrobin substance residue (from fungicides) detected above the limit allowed for Brazilian coffee. The residual level detected was 0.02ppm while the limit prescribed by Japanese rules corresponds to 0.01ppm. Since then, all coffee lots imported from Brazil are undergoing individual inspection.
Since 2003 because residues of diclorvos substance (found in pesticides) were detected in higher levels than the allowed ones, Japan inspects each container of green coffee coming from Brazil.
