The volume of economic exchanges between Romania and Italy was in 2009 of 9.04 billion euro. Romania exported to Italy goods worth 4.47 billion euro while imports from Italy were worth 4.57 billion euro, according to the Italian Institute for Statistics (ISTAT).
Commercial exchanges between Romania and Italy for agricultural produce were worth 709.2 million euro in 2009 ( up by 9.9% against 2008 on the basis of exports to Italy – 28% higher than the previous year, ensuring Romania a positive balance).
Romania imported from Italy produce – agricultural and food worth 226.4 million euro, Italy being placed the sixth among the suppliers of such produce after Hungary, Germany, the
Netherlands, Bulgaria and Poland.
The main produce exported by Italy to Romania were: vegetables, fruit ( 59.1 million euro), meat and meat products ( 24.8 million euro), sweets and pasty ( 18 million euro), fish and fish cans (13 million euro) according to ISTAT. Important values were met with coffee ( 11.9 million euro), cans and fruit juice and vegetables ( 9.9 million euro), wine ( 3.5 million euro).
Italy confirmed as the first supplier of pasta ( 4.4 million euro) and olive oil ( 4.2 million euro).
Analysing the statistical data published by the Romanian Institute for Statistics (INS) for the first two months of 2010 we notice a relaunching of commercial exchanges between Romania and Italy, imports growing by 3.3% and exports by 0.7%.
As regards the exchanges in the domain of food, imports from Italy grew by 11.6% and exports to Italy by 38.3% against the same period of last year.
