Brazilian state of Minas Gerais has graduate course on coffee growing

São Paulo – Since August last year there is in the city of Machado, in southeastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, the university level course on technology in entrepreneurial coffee growing. It is held by the Machado Agro-Technology Federal School (EAFM). Brazil is the main producer and exported of coffee in the world and second greatest coffee consumer.


The city of Machado is considered the international capital of organic coffee. As well as forming capacitated professionals, the school has a technological park in the standards of the best in the world, responsible for special coffees of the gourmet, organic and fair trade kinds.


The course lasts three years, with 2,400 hours, and offers 60 positions per year. The focus is on post-harvest, process in which the coffee adds value and when special coffees are produced. The Ministry of Education supplied the information.


The Machado Agro-Technology Federal School is located 375 kilometres away from the Minas Gerais state capital city Belo Horizonte, 280 kilometres away from São Paulo and 400 kilometres away from Rio de Janeiro. There is also the Muzambinho Agro-Technology Federal School in the region. The cities of Inconfidentes and Bambuí offer courses in technology in entrepreneurial coffee growing.
