BRAZIL – May coffee exports at 2.48 million bags

MILAN – Brazil\’s total coffee exports, including instant coffee, reached US$ 391.8million in May, representing growth of 19.3 percent over the same month of last year.
A total of 2.48 million bags of coffee were shipped, a 0.6 percent decline using the same basis of comparison.
 
The data were disclosed yesterday by the Brazilian Coffee Exporter Council (Cecafe).
Since the beginning of the crop year, sales totalled US$ 4.49 billion and 29.98 million bags shipped.
 
Europe was the leading importer of Brazilian coffee, with a 55 percent share in foreign sales, followed by North America, with a 20 percent share, Asia, with 17 percent, and South America, with 5 percent.
 
The countries that purchased the most from Brazil include Germany, with 2.28 million bags from January to May, the United States, with 2.22 million, Italy, with 1 million, and Japan, with 866,000 bags.
 
According to data supplied by the Cecafe, coffee of the Arabica variety accounted for 84 percent of Brazilian sales, soluble coffee accounted for
11 percent, and Robusta coffee answered to 5 percent of exports.
