Figures and data presented at the 8th Tea & Coffee world cup exhibition and symposiums


Geneva – One of the most attended and successful symposiums at the T&C World cup in Geneva was the one regarding the future of R&G and how it will be positioned against new value-added products (pods, caps and pads).


Data presented by Roberto Pregel, marketing manager of Sistema Espresso Italiano (an Italian roasting company based in Rome), have been elaborated with the support of Databank, an Italian research institute specialized in the coffee sector.


Here are some interesting facts and figures highlighting the basic market trends:


– R&G (Roast and Ground) and pre-portioned are not in conflict, because pods, pads and cups enter new channels, widening the global market.


– R&G is mainly for AFH (Away from Home) and increasing at 8%, not comparable with the increasing double digit rate of the pre-portioned .


– Instant is steadily increasing as well (2,3%),mainly due to the opening of new geographic markets


– The future prospect will be multiproduct, multichanel. Mainly of high quality.


– Espresso and related beverages are at 10% and are spreading worldwide.
