A little caffeine ok during pregnancy

Food Standards Australia, New Zealand in its new guidelines made for women who want to get pregnant or are already carrying said that some caffeine during pregnancy was ok. A little amount of caffeine does not initiate birth defects.


At a coffee shop, pregnant women should stop at one espresso, cappuccino, or latte per day.


According to the guidelines, “While having large amounts of caffeine does not appear to cause birth defects, drinking high amounts of caffeine may make it more difficult to become pregnant and may increase the risk of miscarriage or having a baby with low birth weight.”


It is also recommended for pregnant women or women who are attempting to conceive to take folic acid and iodine regularly, the authority said.


According to health professionals recommend at least 400 micrograms supplement should be taken daily for one month before and three months after conception to cut down the risk of neural tube defects such as spina bifida.
